From [R, G, B] to Surface Reflectance: Computing Color Constant Descriptors in Images

چکیده
This paper addresses the issue of color constancy, which is the the perceptual abi l i ty of the human visual system to assign the same colors to objects under different l ight ing conditions. We propose a method, based on finite-dimensional linear models of reflectance and i l luminat ion, which allows the transformation [R,G,B] images into color constant images. In contrast to previous work, we show that good results can be obtained using a 3-receptor system and some knowledge about the spectral properties of natural materials and i l luminants. In the method developed, an estimate of i l luminant in the scene is computed, which allows the computat ion of color constant descriptors of the pixel values in the image. In addi t ion, we show a method of computing the actual reflectances of the materials in the scene out of the computed color descriptors.

Color Constant Descriptors Combining Image Derivative Structures
Color constant image description is a fundamental problem in many computer vision applications. In this paper, the diagonal-offset model is adopted as reflectance model to get color constant image descriptors. This model makes the descriptors much more robust, and also fits the real world images very well. By introducing 3D moment invariants, this paper contributes to give an illumination indep...
متن کاملRecovering Shading from Color Images
Existing shape-from-shading algorithms assume constant reflectance across the shaded surface. Multi-colored surfaces are excluded because both shading and reflectance affect the measured image intensity. Given a standard RGB color image, we describe a method of eliminating the reflectance effects in order to calculate a shading field that depends only on the relative positions of the illuminant...

The mechanisms that provide color constancy must decompose the reflected light and discount the spectral properties of the illumination in order to establish the colors of the objects in terms of their surface reflectance functions.3–5 Most previous research on the reproduction of...

متن کاملEstimating the Shape of A Surface with Non-Constant Reflectance from a Single Color Image
Most shape estimation algorithms assume images of smooth surfaces with constant surface reflectance and often require knowledge of illuminant positions. These two requirements limit the applicability of such approaches to a small subset of imaged objects. In this paper a variational approach to the shape-from-color problem is presented that requires no knowledge of scene illuminants, and makes ...
